Penguin Random House approached me to help refresh the branding for the next Penguin Design Awards for 2021. The brief was to create a pattern design which evokes the joy of cover design.
The main grid takes its form from the fundamental building blocks of creativity, the Bauhaus school used simple shapes to spark a movement of simplicity. These building blocks are experimented by us from a young age and create the backbone of creative thinking.
The tiles for the final pattern take its inspiration from aspects of thought and design. From the essential base of building blocks, to the powerful and important visual observations of the eye.
All have been hand printed using Lino print techniques to show the rough but beautiful creative process.
